30 Policemen including Kollupitiya OIC who were on duty during Frontline Socialist Party’s protest,sent to Aththidiya centre to undergo quarantine, Police said today.
Police officers clashed with Protestors when they tried to arrest them.
The Black Lives Matter protest in Sri Lanka organised by FSP had violated the court order given to prevent mass gatherings due to health concerns, Police said.
Director of legal Division of Police SSP Ruwan Gunasekara yesterday (10) at a press briefing, “At a time when the country is facing a pandemic, competent authority Health Services Director had issued health instructions against such public gathering which would result in the spread of the Covid-19 virus”.
He added Director General of Health Services Dr Anil Jasinghe said that permission cannot be given to carry out such protest due to the health reasons and maintaining of health guidelines.
“The 53 protestors were produced in court on 10 counts of violating the law, and later released on bail and are further being investigated”.
