Instructions to expedite development projects in Anuradhapura

North Central Province (NCP) Governor Maheepala Herath at a progress review meeting held in Anuradhapura, with regard to the ongoing foreign-funded development projects in the Anuradhapura District advised officials to expedite the projects that have been delayed. A sum of Rs. 10,800 million has been allocated for the implementation of the Anuradhapura Integrated Urban Development Project for which the French Development Agency (AFD) would provide Rs. 9,000 million while Rs. 1,800 million would be funded by the Sri Lankan Government.

“During the period between December 31, 2016 and December 31, 2019, the overall progress of the project stands at 11.5 percent. Of the total funds, only Rs. 244.71 million has been incurred for development work,” Governor Herath said.

At the meeting, progress reports of Phase I and II of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-funded Anuradhapura-North Mega Water Project, Chinese Government-funded Thambuttegama Water Project, Wewgam Pubuduwa Project by the International Green Climate Fund and the Agriculture Modernization Project funded under the World Bank Road Development Programme were also evaluated.
