The Traffic Lane Law and bus priority lanes will be strictly enforced from 22nd June Colombo, the Police said in an advisory.
Motorists will be given a two-week grace period to get accustomed to the law and the police will enlighten the motorists of the lane laws from tomorrow to 22nd June. “An awareness program for drivers will be conducted by police officers from June 8 to 22,” the police said in a statement.
Accordingly, bus priority lane laws will come into effect from 6.00 am to 9.00 am for vehicles entering Colombo and from 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm for vehicles leaving the city.
The bus priority lane running across Olcott Mawatha, Regal, Kumaran Ratnam Road, Piththala junction, Public Library Roundabout, until Kollupitiya will be allowed for selected vehicles.
The bus priority lane running from Maliban Junction in Mount Lavinia to the Moratuwa Cross Junction will also be allowed for the selected group of vehicles leaving Colombo from 5 pm to 8 pm.
The selected vehicles include private and state-owned buses, staff transport buses with more than 20 seats, and school service buses and vans, according to the police.
