The Magisterial inquiry of the girl who died in Puttalam was held yesterday by Magistrate of Puttalam Mr. Rahiru N. Silva at the temporary residence of the girl which is located in a coconut estate by Puttalam – Kurunegala Road.
The Magistrate also instructed Police to obtain the inquest report and recorded evidence and send them to the Government Analyst along with the blood-stained dresses and other relevant material that was hidden by the suspect and found during investigations, in order to receive the Government Analyst’s report.
The victim was living with her mother and her stepfather. She was admitted to Puttalam Base Hospital Thursday (16th) morning by her mother, claiming that the girl was bitten by a snake. However, she had already succumbed to her injuries by the time she was admitted to the hospital.
Investigations were initiated after the Puttalam Hospital authorities alerted the police about the death of the young girl.
Police investigations have revealed that the girl had never gone to school and that a birth certificate had not been issued in her name.
The mother of the deceased girl has told police that the man with whom she had an affair, had abused her daughter while she had gone to a neighbour’s house.
She has claimed that he had threatened her with death if she went to the police about the incident and left the house saying that he will return with a Trishaw to take the girl to a hospital, but never returned.
Police has found out that the suspect has escaped from the area and that he has a criminal record of being part of incidents similar to this.
