150 in quarantine after Gampaha teacher tests positive

PCR or COVID-19 tests have been conducted on 150 individuals who had come into contact with a teacher detected with COVID-19 in Gampaha.

The Public Health Inspector (PHI) in charge of the Gampaha District Subash Subasinghe said that the teacher was detected with the virus on Sunday (19).

The teacher had contracted the virus from a driver who had transported an instructor from the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre, who were earlier identified as having contracted virus.

Subash Subasinghe further said the teacher who is employed at a school in Gampaha is reported to have conducted tuition classes for students from the area.

Those who had come into contact with the infected teacher, including teachers and students from her school, students from her tuition class, and those who reside and had visited her residence have been identified and placed in quarantine.

Subasinghe said 52 persons were identified as close contacts from the school and 100 individuals were identified as contacts from the tuition class.

PCR tests were conducted on the group with all the results returning as negative, he added. (Newswire)
