Sri Lanka Navy arrested 04 people in the northern seas including two people from India for attempting to enter the country illegally by boat
“One person admitted to the Jaffna hospital due to respiratory difficulties” Navy Spokesperson told NewsFirst.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) also nabbed 52 kilos of kerala cannabis worth of Rs. 7.8 million from an abandoned dinghy following information from Uduthurei area in Vettalakeni.
SLN Spokesperson Lt. Com. Isuru Sooriyabandara said a joint operation together with the Special Task Force was conducting, today, in Jaffna to take the suspects, who fled the area, into custody.
He told defence.lk, the SLN has seized over three tons of kerala cannabis during the last six-months.
Navy Spokesperson also confirmed that the recent arrests were made while adhering to health guidelines to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Sooriyabandara said while increasing regular operations to thwart illegal drug smuggling into the country via sea routes, the SLN had also kept its naval fleets in the Northern sea on high alert to be vigilant on attempts by coronavirus infected fishermen, who were involved in various smuggling attempts, entering Lankan waters.
