An appeal submitted by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) was rejected without a hearing by the Civil Appeal High Court of the Western Province today.
When the case was taken up for consideration today, Justices Sampath Abeykoon and Mohamad Laffar rejected the appeal without a hearing.
They further ordered the General Secretary of the SJB Ranjith Madduma Bandara to pay Rs. 25,000 as court expense.
The appeal was submitted by Ranjith Madduma Bandara against the rejection of SJB members’ United National Party (UNP) memberships.
The UNP working committee in May suspended the membership of 102 party members, who had submitted nominations from the SJB for the upcoming General Election.
The Colombo District Court in June rejected to issue an injunction order requested by the SJB on the UNP’s decision to suspend members.
An appeal in this regard was later submitted by the General Secretary of the SJB Ranjith Madduma Bandara at the Civil Appeal High Court of the Western Province.
Madduma Bandara in his appeal had requested the court to annul the Colombo District Court’s decision on the UNP’s decision to suspend members from the party. (Newswire)
