Sri Lanka’s civil aviation authorities are considering granting refunds to passengers whose bookings had to be cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A large number of passengers were affected as air travel was restricted in many countries due to COVID-19, resulting in the cancellation of flights and bookings.
Travel agents state local travel agents have requested Sri Lanka’s civil aviation authorities for refunds for their clients.
Meanwhile, airlines have suggested they could issue travel vouchers for one year enabling passengers to travel during the course of the year under the same air fare.
However, the tourism industry has highlighted that there is no certainty in travel plans yet, as passengers are facing difficulties after losing jobs, and various conferences and gatherings have been cancelled worldwide.
The tourism industry has further requested for a relief package covering a period of three months. (Newswire)
