Sri Lanka’s biggest COVID cluster ends after 3 months with recovery of final Navy patients

The final three patients infected with COVID-19 from the Sri Lanka Navy have recovered and were discharged from hospital yesterday.

Navy Spokesman Captain Indika de Silva said this ends the Navy COVID-19 cluster reported from the Navy Camp in Welisara.

A total of 906 Navy officers were infected with the Coronavirus after an outbreak at the Navy Camp in Welisara.

The first COVID-19 patient from the Navy was reported on 22 April, following which the Navy Camp in Welisara was closed for a period of 2- months from 27 April – 23 June.

Captain de Silva said following the recovery of the final three officers who were discharged from the Iranawila hospital yesterday, all infected Navy personnel have been discharged after complete recovery. (Newswire)
