Four main political parties are contesting the General Election 2020 scheduled for 05 August.
The Prime Ministerial candidates of these four main political alliances have been identified as members who were elected to the previous Parliament of Sri Lanka.
The Prime Ministerial candidates of the four main political alliances contesting the upcoming General Election are as follows:
- Mahinda Rajapaksa
The current Prime Minister and the Prime Ministerial candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will be contesting from the Kurunegala district.
In the 2015 General Election, he obtained 423, 529 votes after contesting from the Kurunegala district, and was elected to the previous Parliament.
As per the manthri.lk categorization of the 225 members of Parliament Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa holds the 145th position.
During Parliament proceedings from 2015- 2020, Mahinda Rajapaksa recorded an attendance of 33%, attending proceedings on 138 days out of a total of 414 days.
- Ranil Wickremesinghe
The former Prime Minister and current Prime Ministerial candidate of the United National Party (UNP) will contest the General Election from the Colombo District.
He was elected to the previous Parliament after securing 556,600 votes in the 2015 General Election.
As per the manthri.lk categorization of the 225 members of Parliament Wickremesinghe is ranked 21.
During Parliament proceedings from 2015- 2020, Ranil Wickremesinghe recorded an attendance of 86%, attending proceedings on 353 days out of a total of 414 days.
- Anura Kumara Dissanayake
The Chief Opposition Organizer of the previous Parliament and the present Prime Ministerial candidate of the National People’s Power will be contesting from the Colombo district.
In the 2015 General Election, Dissanayake obtained 65,966 votes, and was elected to the previous Parliament.
He ranks first as per the manthri.lk categorization of the 225 members of Parliament.
During Parliament proceedings from 2015- 2020, Anura Kumara Dissanayake recorded an attendance of 78%, attending proceedings on 324 days out of a total of 414 days.
- Sajith Premadasa
The former Minister of Housing and Construction and the current Prime Ministerial candidate of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya will be contesting from the Colombo district.
He was elected to the previous Parliament after securing 112,645 votes in the 2015 General Election.
As per the manthri.lk categorization of the 225 members of Parliament, Sajith Premadasa holds the 77th position.
During Parliament proceedings from 2015- 2020, Sajith Premadasa recorded an attendance of 39%, attending proceedings on 160 days out of a total of 414 days. (Newswire)
