The Government has once again temporarily suspended the repatriation of Sri Lankans stranded overseas due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Additional Secretary to the President Admiral Jayanath Colombage said the repatriation process was once again suspended in view of tomorrow’s (05) General Elections.
The repatriation of Sri Lankans stranded overseas will recommence from 08 August.
Over 660 Sri Lankans will be brought down from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates via a special flight, he said.
Admiral Colombage further said thereafter Sri Lankans will be repatriated from the Maldives, Australia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Malaysia, Singapore, and India.
The decision to temporarily suspend the repatriation process was taken due to security officials and health officials requiring to be engaged in election duty and their unavailability to tend to repatriated passengers for quarantine-related measures, he added. (Newswire)
