UPDATE: Fifty one curfew violators have been arrested upto Monday (5), since a curfew was imposed in the Minuwangoda, Veyangoda and Divulapitiya Police Divisions of the Gampaha district on Sunday (4).
Police sources said, the violators were taken into custody from areas where curfew was imposed, as several communities were undergoing PCR tests following the detection of positive COVID-19 cases in society.
Vehicular movement in the curfew-imposed areas is strictly prohibited unless during an emergency.
Shops and businesses in these areas have been instructed to remain closed until further notice.
On Monday (5) night, a person was arrested for spreading fake news on social media about the COVID-19 situation and about an alleged islandwide lockdown. The arrested man is a resident of Wellawatte. Meanwhile, DIG Ajith Rohana told the media that stern legal action will be taken against persons responsible for spreading fake news.
On Monday, the government urged the public not to panic over false news spread on social media.
