The Justice Ministry will construct a new Court complex (Adhikarana Piyasa) in Hulftsdorp, Colombo.
Justice Minister Mohamed Ali Sabry, PC during a recent discussion with officials of the Justice Ministry and the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau advised to expedite the building of this complex.
The buildings where the current Courts are currently housed are now in a dilapidated condition and also congested. “As such it is necessary to construct a new complex within the Hulftsdorp premises where there is adequate land,” the Minister said.
The proposed ‘Adhikarana Piyasa’ to be built on six acres will consist of 12 floors and will be able to house 40 court halls.
In addition a separate eight storey building too would be constructed to be used for Judges quarters and a training center as well. The project plan in this regard has now been approved.
With origins dating back to the Dutch colonial era, the current complex was built during the British colonial era.
