An advisory for heavy rain was issued to several provinces, which is valid until 7:00am December 28.
According to the advisory, "due to the low level atmospheric disturbances in the vicinity of Sri Lanka showery weather is expected over most parts of the island."
Showers will occur at times in Northern, Eastern, North-Central, Uva, Central and Northwestern provinces. Heavy showers above 100 mm can be expected at some places. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm can be expected at some places in these areas particularly in the evening or night.
General public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
