Batticaloa Government Servant K. Karunagaran said that due to the recent heavy rains, 35,640 people from 10,716 families have been affected in the Batticaloa District.
People affected in Murukkantivu and Pirambaditivu by floods from the Santhanamadu River in Siththandy rescued with motorboats.
Around 22,466 people from 6,680 families in the Kattankudy Secretaria Division, 5,689 from Koralai Pattu in Vakarai, 5,037 from Manmunai North, 1,285 from Karalai Pattu in Valaichchenai, 464 from Koralai Pattu Central, 359 from Manmunai Pattu Arayampathy, 128 from Koralai Pattu West, 97 from Paddipalai, 32 from Eravur Pattu Chenkalady, 25 from Manmunai West, 9 Poraitivu Pattu, 11 from Manmunai South Eruvil Pattu, and 8 from Kiran have been affected. Apart from this, two houses each in Kiran, Chenkalady, and Vavunativu and one house each in Vakarai, Valaichchenai, Manmunai North, and Kaluwanchikudy have been damaged. The people who were rescued are currently staying with relatives, while maintaining COVID-19 guidelines.
