The United National Party has planned a series of protests demanding the government to provide relief to the people who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic downturn in the country.
A senior UNP member who wished to remain anonymous said that the previous government succeeded in controlling prices of essential items while effectively facing a number of challenges within the country and outside.
He said that the present government has failed to provide relief to the people who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and an economic crisis.
“Our party had decided to launch a series of protests against the government for the sake of people although we were rejected by the people at the last General election,” he said.
He said that the fight against the government will be taken to the streets as people are facing untold hardships due to the present situation of the country.
