The number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths has soared to 276 with two deaths reported as of yesterday morning.
The National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 yesterday stated that the country reported 56,075 COVID-19 infections since the pandemic began, of which 47,983 were discharged from hospitals after full recovery.
The Centre said it has recorded 887 persons to be infected with the virus within the 24 hour period from Thursday to Friday (22), of whom 13 were identified as Sri Lankans who came to the country from overseas, and one foreign national who came to the country.
The remaining cases were locally identified, with the highest number of COVID-19 cases to be reported from the Colombo district, with 337 cases.
The government health services continue to conduct PCR tests for COVID while providing treatment to the infected. The national hospitals Thursday conducted 16,108 PCR tests Thursday (21), the Centre said.
The number of people treated for COVID in hospitals and intermediate treatment centers was at 7,816 cases by yesterday morning, of which 769 were discharged following successful recovery.
The government has arranged to direct all persons arriving in the country by flight to PCR tests and related quarantine requirements in place.
As of yesterday (22), 8,173 persons are in quarantine in 91 quarantine centre operated by the security forces.
