The 2021 New Year has dawned at a challenging period for the people of this country and to the whole world. I would like to extend my heartfelt wishes to all Sri Lankans who are ready to welcome this New Year even in the midst of those challenges, states Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena in his New Year message.
The message:
The year 2020 brought about many unexpected challenges not only for us Sri Lankans, but also for the people of the world as a whole. Nevertheless, in the face of those challenges, the lessons we have learned and the achievements we have made will be crucial to move forward with a strong mind as we enter this New Year.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the unwavering commitment of all Sri Lankans and all parties, including the health sector and the Security Forces, under the guidance of the Government in successfully overcoming the COVID 19 challenge.
It is a great achievement for all of us to be able to uphold the sovereignty of the people by strengthening democracy, even in the midst of great challenges during the past year. As the Parliament of Sri Lanka, which is the culmination of the supreme democracy of the nation, our objective is to continue to fulfill the aspirations of the people, now and in the future.
The 2021 New Year will definitely be a decisive one. As this New Year dawns, I respectfully invite all Sri Lankans to unite in their hearts and minds to overcome all these challenges, as we all proudly sing in our National Anthem, overcoming all divisions such as race, caste and religion. That is the real victory we look forward to this New Year.
I wish a Happy New Year filled with Health, Peace, Happiness and Prosperity in abundance to all Sri Lankans.
