Seven persons in possession of narcotics were arrested by the officers of the Central Provincial Excise Special Operations Unit at a ‘Facebook Party’ in a hotel in Aniwatta in Kandy yesterday (14).
Around 60 youth were present at the party at the time of the raid. Excise officials suspect that they may have consumed drugs in addition to alcohol.
The Facebook party was organised by a group of people from Colombo, giving wide publicity on social media. Rs. 2000 had been charged from each of them and action will be taken against the person who organised the party for selling foreign liquor without a licence, Central Provincial Excise Special Operations Unit OIC Nalaka Malavipathirana said.
Malavipathirana said youth from Kiribathgoda, Mirigama, Ja-ela, Colombo, Kandy, Akurana, Wellampitiya, Kadawatha and Balangoda had come for this party.
On the instructions of Central Province Assistant Commissioner of Excise Upul Seneviratne, Kandy Excise Superintendent Tissa Gunaratne, Gampola Excise OIC Sisira Herath, Kandy Excise OIC Priyantha Perera and other officers of the Central Provincial Excise Special Operations Unit conducted the operation.
