The death occurred of former Galle District Member of Parliament and Lake House journalist Buddhika Kurukularatne at the age of 78.
He was a lawyer and served as a Member of Parliament representing United National Party from 1989 to 1994.
Kurukularatne was born on June 19, 1943 to a well-known family in Ambalangoda. He had his early education at Maha Ambalangoda Methodist School, Dharmasoka Primary School and St.Thomas’ School Bandarawela. He received his secondary education at Dharmasoka College and St. Thomas’ College, Guruthalawa.
In 1965, Kurukularatne served as a Grade 1 journalist on the Editorial staff of the Sun (English Daily) and on the The Observer Editorial staff in 1966. He also worked in the Virakesari and Janata newspapers from 1966 to 1970, where he was in charge of the foreign news page.
As a free-lance columnist, he wrote articles to the Sunday English and Sinhala newspapers on his experiences as a Parliamentarian in lighter vein and was widely read and acclaimed by both Government and Opposition Parliamentarians. Kurukularatne is the author of six books.
His remains will lie at Jayaratne Respect Funeral Parlour, Borella today (June 10) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cortege leaves the Parlour at 3.30 p.m. for cremation at 4.p.m. at Borella, Kanatte.
