Sri Lanka to administer COVID vaccine for Pregnant mothers

The Ministry of Health has decided to administer Chinese-made Sinopharm vaccine to pregnant mothers from Wednesday onwards, said the Deputy Director General Dr. Hemantha Herath.

He said that the national program will be launched by the Piliyandala MOH area and the vaccination for pregnant mothers will commence from Wednesday.

He was speaking at a media briefing held today at the Health Promotion Bureau.

Dr Herath further said that pregnant mothers will be given priority in vaccination.

According to him, healthy pregnant mothers will not be vaccinated in the first stage and the pregnant mothers with complications will be vaccinated under the first phase of the programme depending on the frequency of vaccination.
