Schoolchildren in two villages in Passara have put up a shade on the surface of a rock in a mountain area to conduct online studies as the area is weak on phone signals to access the Internet. The two villages, Wadukanda and Othumba, belong to the Passara Educational Division. About 200 children of farming families in these villages are facing difficulties to carry on their studies as they do not have required facilities. About 25 children who have mobile phones climb the Wadukanda Mountain range to reach Rilagala, where a temporary shelter has been erected, as that spot has a connection. The place is about five miles away from their houses. Parents accompany their children through the forests in the daytime. Pictures by Prasanna Pathmasiri.
