Three members of the same family living in Iluktenna in Murutalawa, Kandy have died of COVID-19 infection.
Accordingly, a mother,father and a son have succumbed to the virus within 20 days.
The father died on June 2, the mother on June 15 and their son on June 22. The deceased have been identified as Siripala Rajapaksa (71), Chandra Rajapaksa (68) and their son Dhammika Rajapaksa (38).
Siripala Rajapaksa has been running a garage near the Peradeniya University for about four decades and his son has also worked there with his father after completing his education.
Siripala was living with his wife Chandra and son Dhammika in the Iluktenna house in Murutalawa.
Investigations have confirmed that all of them were infected with the virus.
Dhammika’s wife and two children have been admitted to the COVID-19 Intermediate Treatment Centre in Panideniya and are recovering well. Siripala’s daughter Sujeewa Rajapaksa who is married and lives in Peradeniya stated that her father had diabetes but had no other ailments and that her mother had undergone heart surgery about 1 1/2 years ago and that her brother had no illness at all.
