ID, Office letter essential for inter-provincial travel

Only those having an authorized letter from their office and the relevant office ID card will be allowed to board trains that cross provincial boundaries, Railways General Manager Dhammika Jayasundara said.

“Those who do not have the correct documentation and identification will not be allowed on board,” Jayasundara said. “The number of office trains and trips have been increased. Since the inter-provincial travel ban was re-imposed, travel without valid reasons is not encouraged. Railway station and security staff has been empowered to check the papers of commuters at any time. All travellers should cooperate with these measures,” Jayasundara added.

Travellers are also advised to come early to the respective station and board the trains at their convenience. The number of compartments has been increased on all trains to ensure social distancing and adequate ventilation, he said.
