Prof. Malavige says people won’t refuse jab if properly educated

Prof. Neelika Malavige yesterday (22) said that Covid-19 vaccination should be an individual choice but she didn’t think anyone would refuse it if properly educated on its benefits.

“Anyone who doesn’t want to be vaccinated should be properly presented with the facts,” Prof. Malavige said. The top academic was responding to The Island query whether vaccination should be made mandatory.

The researcher and scientist Prof Malavige currently serves as the head as well as the professor at the Department of Immunology and Molecular Sciences of the Sri Jayawardenepura University, Faculty of Medical Sciences.

State Minister Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle’s call to make vaccination mandatory has received the backing of several prominent persons, including former Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission Dr. Deepika Udagama and lawmakers representing both the government and the Opposition. (SF)
