SLTB buses to ply for essential work employees

Transport State Minister Dilum Amunugama said the required number of SLTB buses will ply at the request of heads of institutions for the convenience of those engaged in essential services.

This is despite public transport services not being in operation during the quarantine curfew.

Amunugama said a ticket can be purchased for the relevant distance only without any extra charge, when travelling in these buses deployed for essential services.

Amunugama made these comments during a media briefing held on Saturday. He said that the government has issued a statement regarding those who can report for duty despite the curfew being imposed. Hence, he said that these buses could be provided for employees of companies to travel to work, if the heads of these institutions make a request to the nearest SLTB depot. Amunugama also said that journalists could also travel in these buses by producing their media IDs.

The State Minister also noted that as the vaccination drive is in operation despite the quarantine curfew and buses have been deployed to transport the public to these vaccination centres.
