Punjab Cabinet Expansion: CM Channi allocates portfolios to newly-inducted ministers

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Tuesday allocated portfolios to the recently inducted Ministers in the State Cabinet. As per the list, Channi has retained 14 departments which include – Vigilance, Justice, power, excise, Civil Aviation. Deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has been allotted Home affairs and Channi’s second deputy Om Parkash Soni was allocated health and family welfare, defence services welfare and freedom fighters.

Channi, who took oath as the chief minister on September 20, gave the Local Government, Parliamentary Affairs Department to senior cabinet colleague Brahm Mohindra.

Earlier On Sunday, 15 Congress MLAs took oath as ministers in Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi-led new State Cabinet. Channi took oath as the 16th Chief Minister of Punjab on September 20, days after Captain Amarinder Singh stepped down from the post of Punjab Chief Minister following months of infighting between him and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.

After his resignation, Captain Amarinder Singh said that he felt “humiliated” adding that he had been summoned thrice by the central leadership in the past two months.

These developments came months before the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.
