Army JCO among five soldiers killed in Poonch encounter

: Five army soldiers including a Junior Commissioned Officer were killed in an encounter that is going on in Chamrer forest area of Surankote area of Poonch district, official sources told News24.

Official sources said that one JCO and four soldiers sustained bullet injuries in heavy exchange of fire in Chamrer forest area of Surankote, sources said it was newly infiltrated group of militants which had laid ambush and attacked upon army search party which later on turned into a fierce encounter.

“Although all the injured were evacuated to army hospital for treatment, but all the five including JCO succumbed,” officials said.

PRO Defence Jammu told News24 that Based on intelligence inputs, today morning Indian Army has launched a Corden and Search operation in villages close to DKG in Surankote jurisdiction of district Poonch (J&K).

PRO said that in an ensuing firefight during the ongoing encounter with terrorists, one JCO and four Jawans of Indian Army have suffered critical injuries.

The critically injured JCO and Jawans were evacuated to nearest medical facility but succumbed to their injuries. He said the operation is still going on.

As per sources it is believed thay three to four heavily armed militants are present in the area.

This is the third encounter since  early today in Jammu and Kashmir, earlier a militant was killed in Anantnag South Kashmir and another TRF (the resistance front) affiliated militant was killed in Bandipora North Kashmir. IGP Kashmir told News24 that  the slain TRF militant was involved in recent civilian killing in Bandipora.
