Divya Deshmukh has now become India’s 21st Women Grandmaster at the age of mere 15 years after achieving her 2nd International Master (IM) at First Saturday Grand Master (GM) in Budapest, Hungary on Wednesday.
Child prodigy from Maharastra took to twitter and wrote “Completed my 2nd IM norm and my last WGM norm. Hoping to play some more good chess in the upcoming tournaments.”
Just a norm away from International Master
The 15 year old Maharashtriyan is now just a norm away from becoming the International Master as she secured her second IM-Norm.
Divya scored five points in nine rounds and ended up with a performance rating of 2452 to secure her final WGM norm. Apart form the three wins, she playe out four draws while losing two games in the tournament.
She also said that she missed playing Over the Board (OTB) Chess. The event in Budapest was Divya Deshmukh’s first over the board event since the Covid-19 pandemic last year.
All India Chess Federation congratulated Deshmukh for becoming country’s 21st WGM and wrote “Congratulations @DivyaDeshmukh05, latest Woman Grandmaster of India Nagpur teenager Divya Deshmukh becomes the latest Woman Grandmaster of the country after achieving her second International Master Norm(Final WGM Norm) at First Saturday Grandmaster October 2021, Budapest Hungary.”
