With the opening of the country for foreign tourists, the Hikkaduwa Tourist Promoters Association (HTPA), has taken a timely decision to open the Hikkaduwa tourism sector for tourists from October 16 (Saturday).
Accordingly, this world renowned tourism village will be open for tourists after a lapse of nearly 15 months with maintaining Government approved all Covid-19 health guidelines.
The newly formed HTPA, the ‘First’ with the membership of nearly 500 tour operators, tour guides and tourist hotel owners has already taken measures to open the Hikkaduwa tourism village by informing foreign tourists and tour groups via the zoom technology about the latest developments in this traditional tourism village.
Speaking to Daily News Business, HTPA President Kosala Weragala said all possible measures have been taken to identify the places where foreign tourists could enjoy and mostly like to visit in this Hikkaduwa tourism village. Accordingly, tourists could enjoy the picturesque seaside fishing village, the country’s first marine sanctuary, the wayside boutiques and shops where tourists could purchase various locally manufactured clothes, ornaments, craft items etc. Hikkaduwa tourist village which is located nearly 50 kilometers away from the city of Colombo has been recognized as the first tourist resort in the country with a large number of tourist hotels, guest houses and boutique shops that foreign tourists admire a lot.
Weragala said the HTPA expects a large number of foreign tourists during this forthcoming festive season since all facilities have been finalized to welcome the tourists and tour groups visiting the village from next Saturday.
He said steps have also been taken to conduct the annual `Hikka tourist promotion festival’ from this year with the blessing of all tourist hotels, tour guides and tour operators in Hikkaduwa village.
