President orders isolation of areas with new Covid-19 cases

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday instructed health and security officials to isolate areas affected by COVID-19 cases to prevent any large outbreaks. Addressing the anti-COVID task force meeting yesterday, Rajapaksa said that steps should be taken to reduce coronavirus cases.

Director General Health Services, Dr. Asela Gunawardena said the vaccination of schoolchildren aged 18-19 years in the Colombo District had commenced yesterday. Others in the same age group in other districts would be vaccinated from October 21 in schools and at regional health offices, he said.

One dose would be given to schoolchildren, while two doses would be given to children with congenital diseases, Dr. Gunawardena said.

“Another 600,000 Pfizer vaccine doses are scheduled to arrive next Monday and the already ordered vaccines are being received,” Chairman of the State Pharmaceutical Corporation Dr. Prasanna Gunasena said.

Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya informed the COVID Committee that the Home Quarantine process adopted by the health sector to control the spread of COVID-19 virus had been highly commended by the World Health Organization.
