Tamil Parties must collectively ask for PC Election - India

Exerting pressure on India alone will not help win the Provincial Council (PC) Elections in Sri Lanka, and instead the Tamil parties should collectively make a request in that regard from the Sri Lankan Government, Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla had told the Tamil National Alliance (TNA).

The Indian Foreign Secretary met with the TNA representatives on Monday at the Indian High Commission in Colombo.

He had pointed out that it was not possible for India to exert an immense pressure on the Sri Lankan Government to hold the PC Elections just because it supported the 13th Amendment to the Constitution or because the Indo-Lanka Accord was signed.

He had told the TNA group that it was problematic why the Tamil parties do not collectively demand the PC Elections from the Government in the same manner they exert pressure on the Indian Government to intervene in that regard.

“A collective request from the Sri Lankan Government will help win the PC Elections, rather than each Tamil party making that request from the Indian Government,” he had told the TNA group.

TNA Leader R.Sampanthan, former MP Mavai Senathirajah, MPs M.A.Sumanthiran, Dharmalingam Siddarthan and Selvam Addaikalanathan participated in the meeting with the Indian Foreign Secretary.
