BJP MP Tejasvi Surya retracts from ghar wapasi statement

New Delhi:

Tejasvi Surya, Lok Sabha MP for Bengaluru South Lok Sabha Constituency, has recently called for

ghar wapasi

of Hindus who have converted to other faiths. Addressing a program in Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt, the BJP leader from Karnataka said all those who left Hinduism should be reconverted and stated that every temple, mutt should set a target for the same.

Tejasvi Surya said “certain statement” from his speech has regrettably created an “avoidable” controversy. “I therefore unconditionally withdraw the statements,” he added.

Tejasvi Surya’s also shared the video of his entire speech on Twitter where he can be heard saying that people who have left their “mother religion” must be brought back on priority. He added that brining back people was the “only possible solution” to an “anomaly”.

“The Hindu has been taken out from his mother religion. There is only one possible solution…there is only one solution to address this anomaly,” the BJP MP said.

He further said, “This does not come to us naturally but today we must evolve. This metamorphosis must come in our DNA.”

He said Islam and Christianity are not just religions but are political imperial ideologies. These religions believe they are the supreme and hence this is the fundamental difference between these religions and Hinduism. These faiths were propagated by wielding swords.

Tejasvi Surya’s remarks came just two days after the Karnataka Assembly passed the anti-conversion bill. The bill passed in the state assembly those engaging in mass religious conversion will be provided jail term.
