Lakhimpur Kheri incident: Rahul Gandhi moves adjournment notice in LS, demands removal of Ajay Mishra

New Delhi:

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday moved adjournment motion in Lok Sabha over Lakhimpur Kheri incident demanding sacking of MoS Home Ajay Kumar Mishra and ensuring justice to the families of victims.

In the letter addressed to the Secretary General of Lok Sabha, Gandhi wrote, “the UP Police SIT report has highlighted that massacre of farmers of Lakhimpur was a pre-planned conspiracy and not a negligent act. The SIT has recommended for the modification for the modification of the charges against all the accused.”

The adjournment motion also stated that the Government should “immediately sack the MoS Home Affairs, Ajay Kumar Mishra and ensure justice is delivered to the families of the victims.”

Congress MP in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should advise Mishra to resign or should decide and sack him.

“If PM Modi has even an iota of devotion for Ganga Mata, he must advise his minister (Ajay Mishra Teni) to resign or he himself should decide and sack him. I think it’ll further enhance his image because he’s working on image makeover right now,” Chowdhury said.

Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh to probe the Lakhimpur case, in its report said Ashish Mishra, prime accused in the case and son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, has been found guilty of murder, attempt to murder and hatching conspiracy against farmers in Lakhimpur.

After the SIT report section 279, 338 and 304 A imposed on Ashish Mishra and 14 other accused have been convicted for murder, attempt to murder and other serious charges.

Notably, Ajay Mishra had earlier claimed his son was not present at the spot of the crime and even went on to say that he would resign from the cabinet.
