Stock market opens on positive note, BSE Sensex jumps 400 points, NSE Nifty crosses 17100

Today, on Tuesday, the second trading day of the week, the stock market opened at the green mark. The 30-share BSE Sensex opened 330.97 points higher at 57,751.21. NSE’s Nifty opened 91.35 points higher at 17,177.60.

At the time of writing this report, the BSE Sensex was up 336 points and the NSE Nifty had risen 105 points from Monday’s closing level.

On Monday, the ominous shadow of the new coronavirus variant Omicron had loomed large over the stock market. Many markets in Asia, including India, had witnessed a decline on Monday. 

In today’s trade, both the BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty index are showing weakness. The Nifty has come down below 16900. The Sensex is also down 250 points.

Today’s trade has witnessed a mixed trend in major Asian markets. The SGX Nifty is down 0.27 per cent. The Straits Times and Hang Seng are trading in the green. The Nikkei 225 is down 0.19 per cent, while the Taiwanese weighted is up 0.56 per cent. The Kospi and Shanghai Composites are also in the red.

Cipla, Divis Labs and Power Grid Corporation are the top gainers on the NSE Nifty while IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Consumer Products and Axis Bank are among the top losers.

The news of a change in the management of RBL Bank has also affected the market in a negative manner. RBL Bank’s share price has gone down by 10 per cent. The bank index on the Nifty is down more than 1.5 per cent.
