#TheAshes: James Anderson fights back but Aussie juggernaut rolls on

Melbourne:

English cricketer Jimmy Anderson put up a strong fight against the hosts as the bowler cliched four of the Australian wickets in the third test played between the arch-rivals in Melbourne.

Australia managed to take lead by 82 runs, hitting 267 runs, in first innings with the opener Marcus Harris garnering 76 runs giving his team a strong base and David Warner contributed 38 runs.

Though the second test centurion Marnus Labuschagne was dismissed for just a single by Mark Wood and Australia was reduced to 84/3 in the 25th over.

Vice-captain Steve Smith then came out to the crease and along with Harris, he added 26 runs for the fourth wicket.

However, veteran Anderson ended the stay of Smith (16) at the crease. In the end, Travis Head and Harris ensured that Australia does not lose any more wickets before the lunch break.

Resuming the second session at 131/4, Marcus Harris and Travis Head added 40 more runs to the total before the latter was sent back to the pavilion by Ollie Robinson. Head scored 27 from 48 balls with the help of two boundaries.

Nine runs later, Marcus Harris perished off the bowling of James Anderson and Australia was reduced to 180/6, still trailing by five runs. Anderson dismissed Harris, picking his third wicket of the innings.
