Ethiopia: Scores killed, dozens injured in airstrike on refugee camp

Addis Ababa (

Ethiopia

):

Violence is on the rise in the African country of Ethiopia. There was a sudden air attack on the refugee camp at night in the Tigre area here.

At least 56 people have been killed and more than 30 injured in the attack. The dead and injured include children as well as the elderly.

The bombing took place after noon in Dadebit, northwest of the region near

Ethiopia’s

border with Eritrea.

A media website reported that the attack took place at midnight when it was dark here and people did not even get a chance to escape.

Getachev Reda, a spokesman for the central government’s Fighting Tigre People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) party, said in a tweet that Prime Minister Abi Ahmed had launched a drone attack on a camp for displaced people in Dadebit, killing 56 people.

Military spokesman Colonel Garnet Adane and government spokesman Legacy Tulu have not yet commented on the matter. The

Ethiopia

PM’s spokesperson also did not respond to questions from local media.

Earlier, the government of

Ethiopia

had denied the deaths of civilians in the 14-month-long struggle against the rebel forces.

Air strikes in the Tigre area of

Ethiopia

are nothing new. Since October 18 2021, 146 people have been killed and 213 injured.
