Jai Bhim Story and star cast:
Jai Bhim is inspired by the true incident that happened way back in 1993. A man named Rajakannu from the marginalised Irular tribe of Tamil Nadu was falsely framed in a theft case. The horrific death of Rajakannu due to the custodial torture was a challenging and landmark legal battle for K Chandru when the victim’s wife Sengani (real name Parvathi) came to the lawyer for help. The film chronicles Chandru’s quest for justice.
Besides Suriya, the film stars Lijomol, K Manikandan and Rajisha Vijayan among others in pivotal roles.
Jai Bhim controversy:
Jai Bhim got embroiled in a controversy after Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) alleged that certain scenes in the film defames the Vanniyar community. Vanniyar Sangam sent a legal notice to Suriya, Jyotika, TJ Gnanavel and Amazon Prime Video for tarnishing the image of the community. Apart from removing the objectionable scenes, the Vanniyar Sangam also demanded Rs 5 crore in damages and an unconditional apology from the Jai Bhim team.
Later, director TJ Gnanavel and Suriya had issued statements clarifying their intent, and had said that they did not mean to target one specific community.
