Six arrested for selling aerial bombs as scrap metal

The Mullaitivu Puthukudiyiruppu Police has arrested six persons who tried to sell two aerial bombs weighing 200 kg each as scrap metal.

The bombs had been found in a plot of land near the

Puthukudiirippu Divisional Secretariat in Mullaitivu where a large Army camp was located during the terrorist war and it had been handed over to its owner later.

The landlord had found the two air bombs while clearing the garden and had told several friends who had later taken the two 400 kg air bombs to be sold to a scrap metal dealer.

However, the suspects had been arrested before they sold the bombs to the scrap metal dealer after the owner of the adjoining land had lodged a complaint with the Police about the bombs.

The Mullaitivu Puthukudiirippu Police said they will produce the six suspects before the Mankulam Magistrate’s Court.
