Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister BC Nagesh on Tuesday accused Campus Front of India which is backed by Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) of instigating the protest over wearing hijab (headgears) by college students.
The minister said, “SDPI-backed Campus Front of India is behind it. Complete details will be known after investigation. Law and order must be maintained in the state.”
Nagesh has been vocal about the entire issue over wearing hijabs. A day earlier, the girls were allowed entry in the classrooms of Government PU College in Kundapura but the girls sat separate from other students.
He said, “Students protesting outside campus were allowed inside campus as courtesy. They were asked to wear uniform and attend classes.”
The minister said that “Law of the land has to be followed. If they (students wearing hijab) have to study, then they must adhere to dress code prescribed by schools/administration,” the minister said.
“Protesting students were asked to wear uniform and attend classes but they chose to sit in a separate room and protest,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Nagesh said the students wearing hijab (headgear) are allowed in the classroom out of courtesy.
