New Delhi: An exchange of fire occurred between the Indian Army and a lone militant on Saturday. The incident took place in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Army dog Axel was hit by three bullets and succumbed to death instantly. The assault dog was two-years-old.
There are regular reports that emerge from Jammu and Kashmir regarding exchange of fire. Most of the times terrorists are neutralized and sometimes security personnel get martyred. However, this time a lone militant was involved in firing with the Indian Army and killed the army dog Axel.
The militant fired three shots around the face of an assault dog (Axel). The dog was sent to sniff out the militant’s location. However, it turned out to be the last task carried out by the brave dog Axel.
The militant was eventually killed. But the Axel could not be saved as he died before he reached the vet. The operation was carried out in the Wanigam are of Baramulla district in Kashmir.
According to the police, the militant was identified as Akhtar Hussain Bhat. Two soldiers and a policeman were also wounded in the fire exchange. The army dog Axel originated from the breed of Belgian Malinois which is a shepherd dog. The encounter lasted for about five hours.
