BSE chief Ashish Kumar Chauhan resigns; Search on for new CEO

Ashish Chauhan quits as BSE chief: Ashish Kumar Chauhan has resigned from the post of Managing Director and CEO of BSE. Ashish Chouhan will soon join rival National Stock Exchange (NSE) as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The BSE has started looking for a new head to replace Ashish Chauhan.

Ashish Kumar Chauhan was part of the founding team of the NSE but left it in 2000 to become part of Reliance Industries Group (RIG). In 2009 he returned to the stock exchange sector as the Deputy CEO of BSE and again in 2012 he took over as the CEO.

In a regulatory filing, BSE has said that an Executive Management Committee of the exchange will look into the affairs of BSE till the appointment of a new MD and CEO.
The executive management committee includes chief regulatory officer Neeraj Kulshrestha, chief financial officer Nayan Mehta, chief business officer Sameer Patil and head of business operations and listing sales, Girish Joshi.

Ashish Chouhan has been relieved of roles and responsibilities in BSE with effect from July 25, 2022.

He introduced mobile stock trading in India, diversifying into new areas including currency, commodity and equity derivatives, SMEs, startups, mutual fund and insurance distribution, spot markets and power trading.

At present, it is facing allegations of governance lapse as well as co-location scam. Its former MD and CEO Chitra Ramakrishna was ousted as a result of the co-location case.
