The Railway Department has incurred a loss of nearly Rs.10 million due to the Trade Union action initiated by Railway Station Masters for a period of 48 hours from 6 pm on July 23 to 12pm on July 24.
The Railway Station Masters withdrew from issuing railway tickets during this period causing the revenue loss to the Department,” A Spokesman from the Railway Department said. Commuters have reportedly travelled free of charge as tickets were not issued at many railway stations,” he added.
However, it has been reported that train tickets have been issued at several stations despite the trade union action by the Station Masters.
Meanwhile, President of the Railway Station Masters’ Union Sumedha Somaratne stated that the Union will accept no responsibility for loss incurred to the Department due to the strike.
