
The Colombo Crimes Division arrested a ‘Moulavi’ yesterday who is said to have been involved in creating a scene near the Police Headquarters.
According to police information, he was arrested on the charges of being a member of an illegal assembly, misconduct and damaging government property during a protest held near the Police headquarters on June 9. He was arrested at the residence of his third wife in Maligawatte. He is a resident of Beruwala.
A senior police officer said that this forty-four-year-old ‘Moulavi’ had claimed to be a Muslim cleric, but when asked which mosque he belonged to he was unable to say which mosque he belonged to.
