Congress gets back at Shashi Tharoor, alleges ‘double-face’

New Delhi: A day after Congress leader Shashi Tharoor levelled serious allegations of irregularities in polls conducted for the party’s chief post, the grand-old party has reverted to the former, accusing him of having two faces.

The election in-charge for Congress president polls, Madhusudhan Mistry, said, “I am sorry to say that you had one face before me which communicated that you’re satisfied with all our answers and a different face in the media which made all these allegations against us.”

In a statement to the losing camp, the party said Congress MP Tharoor is making a big deal out of nothing. It says Tharoor, by his actions, is creating an impression that the entire exercise was unfair to his candidature.

On Wednesday, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge defeated Shashi Tharoor to become Congress chief by getting 84 percent of the votes on Monday when the votes were cast.

The 80-year-old Kharge is the first non-Gandhi president of the Congress after 24 years.
