
Customs Spokesperson Sudaththa Silva said that four passengers who were smuggling eight kgs and 500 grams of gold worth Rs.170 mn to Sri Lanka were arrested by the Customs Narcotics Control Division at the arrival terminal of Katunayake Airport yesterday (30) morning.
The suspects arrived at the Katunayake Airport on WY-371 flight of Oman Airlines from Muscat, Oman at 7.40 yesterday morning.
Of the suspects, a couple at age 25 and a man, 50, have attempted to smuggle three gold plates weighing 7.5 kilos hidden in the trollies they were taking their belongings.Another suspect,35 had transported a kilo of gold in forms of jewellery and golden biscuits hidden inside his body.
Customs officers had flagged the four suspects because their behaviour was unusual.
