The Habaraduwa police said that the driver of a three-wheeler and a Russian woman who was travelling in it were killed on the spot when the three-wheeler collided with the Rajarata Rejina train which was traveling from Beliatte to Anuradhapura at the Unawatuna Mataramba railway crossing yesterday morning.
The driver of the vehicle, a 42-year-old resident of Hapugala Wakwella and a Russian woman, died in this accident.
It has been revealed in police investigations that the foreign woman, who is temporarily staying near the place of the accident, was returning from dropping her child at a day care centre yesterday morning. After the collision the trishaw had caught fire and completely gutted.
The signal system at the railway crossing was not in working order.
