‘Cut Ishara’, a member of the gang who kidnapped an associate of Welle Suranga, an underworld drug trafficker hiding in a detention camp in South India, was shot in the mouth and hacked with sharp weapons and abandoned in Kaduwela area, was arrested on Saturday (31) following an operation conducted by the Police Special Task Force Intelligence unit.
This 31-year-old underworld criminal is a resident of Nagahamulla Road in Kolonnawa.
It was on December 26 that, three persons including this underworld criminal had gone to a House in Kadawatha and abducted Harsha Madushan Janaka alias Anju who is said to be an associate of Welle Saranga, another underworld criminal.
Subsequently he had been brought to Kaduwela and assaulted and hacked and finally shot in themouth and abandoned on Chandrika Kumaratunga Mawatha Kaduwela. They were under theimpression that the individual had died due to the gunshot.However, he had not died and is hospitalized presently is receiving treatment, the police said.
Investigations have revealed that about a month and a half ago, Kosala, an associate of underworld criminal named Welle Suranga, was abducted from the house of his mistress in
Angoda area, hacked to death in Madinnagoda, and abandoned on the highway, according to a contract given by a drug dealer living in Dubai to Welle Saranga’s henchmen. In retaliation, the person named Kosala had together with two of his associates abducted Anju from Kadawatha on December26, hacked him and shot him, the Special Task Force said.
Five grams and 220 milligrams of the drug ice which had been in the possession of the underworld criminial ‘Cut Ishara’ who was arrested regarding this shooting, had also been discovered. Based on information revealed during questioning, the vehicle used in the abduction, a sword, a ‘manna’ knife, and a mobile phone had been found by the Special Task Force. The suspect has been handed over to the Kaduwela Police Station for further investigations.
This raid and arrest had been carried out at the junction turn-off to the Nagahamulla Watte in the Kaduwela Police Division by a team of police officers including of the Acting Officer-In-Charge of the Intelligence Division Inspector of Police R. D. A. Ranasinghe on the orders and instructions of Commander of the Special Task Force Deputy DIG Attorney Waruna Jayasundera.
