WPL 2023: The inaugural players auction is likely to be in February 11 or 13

Reason for changing the deadline

One, most of the franchise owner of WPL also hold their share in ILT20 in Arab United Emirates and SA20 in South Africa, both of which will hold their final on February 11 and 12 respectively.

The owners of three IPL teams – Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals – along with Adani Group and Capri Global secured the five franchises, paying a cumulative total of INR 4669.99 crore (USD 572.78 million approx) in what is the biggest deal in women’s cricket.

While Adani Sportsline, the sports arm of the Adani Group, bagged the Ahmedabad team, Capri Global, a non-banking finance company, picked Lucknow as its home base. The three IPL teams – Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore- stuck to the same cities that operate as their hubs in the IPL – Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.

Matches will be played at two venues

All the 22 matches of maiden WPL will be played at Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Cricket Academy in Mumbai, this two location is identified by BCCI.

The WPL will just start after the conclusion of T20 Women’s World Cup, that will be hosted by South Africa. Playing at just two occasions at the same city, will eliminate travel challenges and players will get sufficient time to play matches.
