Most media try to guide the public – Saman

Most media organisations in Sri Lanka only communicate what they want to communicate adding their own opinions, while only catering to their objectives, says Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake.

He made this statement addressing those gathered at the inauguration ceremony of the student media programme, ‘Kaleidoscope 2024 – Screen Media for Gen Z’, held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (12).

He added that most media organisations try to guide the public and the public just follows what is stated by the media. “This needs to change. With this programme, students will be able to see the truth beyond what the media shows.”

Addressing the crowd, Director General of the President’s Media Division, Dhanushka Ramanayake, said the objective of this programme is to give school students the “correct training” and provide them with the foundation and practical experience to become skilled media administrators and professional journalists. He further stated that by the end of the programme he hopes to handover the operations and responsibilities of the President’s Media Division for at least two days to the students who successfully complete the programme.
